Abuses against girl child in Busia County is high. Statistics from the Kenya Bureau of Statistics show that teenage pregnancies stand at 21 percent, outweighing the national figure of 18 percent.

At a meeting on November 30 2022 to mark the 16 Days of Activism against gender-based violence, County officials hold that Poverty and porous borders are reasons why Busia is turning out to be a den of child trafficking, defilement, and child labor. Pauline Simiyu, the executive director, of Pragmatic Social Action, heard when county officials revealed that cases of rape have spiked, with Matayos constituency leading, followed by Nambale. Samia comes third with an average of three cases reported daily. At a meeting by the Elite Empowered women on sustainable activism, activists said they shall continue to mark the #16DaysOfActivism against Gender-Based Violence and help the County wake up to its responsibility to women and girls.
