The Pragmatic Social Action participated at the National Convention for CSO Engagement in FLLoCA Implementation. Participatin in its capacity as a member of the Kenya Platform for Climate Governance, PSA actively engaged in the convening of this vital convention at Maanzoni Lodge, Machakos, where Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) were inducted into the Financing Locally Led Climate Action (FLLoCA) structure and delivery approaches.
FLloCA has made incredible strides in decentralizing climate finance and empowering local governance: Establishing 46 county climate change units led by ministers appointed by Governors. Creating county climate change steering committees in 46 counties. Ensuring climate change budgets and policies are active in nearly all counties, with 45 counties executing their budgets and 24 counties developing policies. Enacting county climate change acts in 46 counties and conducting participatory risk assessments across the board. Day 2 Highlights Mr. Peter Odhengo, National Coordinator of FLLoCA, emphasized the program’s inclusive nature, saying: “We must work together to restore nature. FLLoCA ensures no one is left behind.”
Delegates engaged in sessions on Environmental Safeguards by Ms. Selelah Okoth, a Social and Environmental Risks Safeguards Specialist under PIU. Discussions from Day 1 included social accountability tools by Mr. Oliver and insights on bridging the government-citizen gap by Mr. Mwangi Waituru from VSO.
With participation from 46 elected CSO representatives, national networks, and development partners such as the World Bank, this convention is shaping the next phase of the CSO engagement framework in FLLoCA implementation. The high-level sessions tomorrow will set the stage for the regional CSO representatives’ elections on December 18th. We are ensuring Kenya’s climate governance and development objectives are realized, strengthening partnerships at all levels to tackle climate change effectively.
